A Role of Efforts for Islamic Revival in Turkey: Najamuddin Erbakan

Abstract

In 1923, Mustufa Kemal Ataturk imposed Western ideology and culture in Turkey in the guise of secularisim and nationalism.The Turkish denizens who were facing severe political, social and economic regression at the time, accepted this change as the only way to out of their predicament. However, it did not deter the love for Islam from the hearts of Turkish people who were still deeply rooted in the Ottoman culture and traditions. At the end of the 19th century, Islam once again took roots in Turkish politics and personalities like Adnan Menderes, Necmettin Erbakan, Recep Tayip Erdogan and Abdullah Gul came appeared on center stage to form Pro-Islamic political parties and strived for the revival of Islamic spirit.The objective of this research is to anlyse the struggle of one of these revivalists, Necmettin Erbakan in Turkish politics.
