Literary translation is more subtle and, as such, requires more adeptness when it comes to the conveying of a writer’s intended meaning to the readers in a different language. The letters written by Mirza Beg Asad Ullah Khan (1797-1869) aka Ghalib are of seminal importance for the researchers in the field of Urdu literature as they depict not only Ghalib’s views and events of his personal life but also provide valuable glimpses into the sociopolitical landscape of Indian Subcontinent of the nineteenth century. However, the ones that he penned down in Persian remained out of reach for his Urdu readers for a very long period of time due to the dearth of standard translation that would simultaneously retain the aesthetics of his Persian letters while translated into Urdu and the equivalence of difficult words and phrases that would be relatable to the ones rooted in the culture of Indian subcontinent. From 1996 to 2015, Partav Rohila (1932-2016) undertook this momentous task of translating all the letters written by Ghalib, in Persian, to different addressees during his life into Urdu. Over the span of these 19 years of rigorous research into Ghalib’s correspondences in Persian language, Rohila compiled five collections of the letters that were earlier published but lacked the hallmarks of a satisfactory translation as the comparative analysis of the translation of some of these letters cited in the present study suggests. This study is an endeavor to critically evaluate this seminal contribution of Rohila towards the enrichment of Ghalibian Studies. In this connection, the researcher has taken care of analyzing the translation done by Rohila by keeping in mind the main criteria of literary translation i.e. it should not sacrifice the aesthetics of the source text for dragging the meaning from the source language to the target language, it should not leave any lacunae which may confound the reader of the target text and it should be in accordance with the writer’s intended meaning, style and desired impact. The significance of the present oeuvre of the researcher lies in the urgency of the authentic works of translation which are vital not only for widening the canon of Urdu literature and the works of stalwarts like Ghalib but also for globalizing, hitherto, the lesser-known works.
Wherever the word culture comes with anything, we should understand one thing immediately. The relevant thing now includes personal status, social values, habits, actions, ideas, beliefs, experiences, rituals, and religions. They will also try to establish their image in which society is breathing. That is why the recovery of culture in any great literature is a must because literature reflects society. Materialism; by removing oneself from spiritual and intuitive conditions, relying on mythological powers, the help of gods, and spiritual attitudes to understand the universe.Which can also be called the expression of external and internal forces in general terms. From here, some issues and ideas are clearly explained. Culture refers to knowing and understanding social values, and materialism refers to the denial of supernatural elements and powers and dependence on personal consciousness and will. Cultural materialism refers to the social values of belief, religion, and ritual, denying any supernatural power and self-reliance for self and society. The historical context theory studies the historical characters in fiction. While analyzing them, such aspects are brought out that the powerful character is seen suppressing and exploiting the weak character at the social level. In this way, we will immediately understand that any character who goes against any character with supernatural powers will try to wipe out his opponent. Thus, a cultural-materialistic conflict will begin among the historical characters. In the related short story "Ustad," the characters have also been evaluated in the same context. Every powerful character oppresses the weak. Therefore, this short story describes the theory correctly.
Dr. Usman Ghani Copyright (c) 2023 al-Īqāẓ (الإيقاظ) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-09-28 2023-09-28 52 63 Taliban’s Recapture of Afghanistan: Future Implications for Global, Regional and Domestic Stakeholders https://www.aleeqaz.org/index.php/aleeqaz/article/view/182
Afghanistan emerged as a significant concern of foreign policy for the entire region when Taliban regime was overthrown by the U.S and NATO forces in 2001 with subsequent rise of a coalition of different ethnic groups to power. Although ousted from the government, the Taliban fighters kept their struggle alive through insurgency and attacks on the Allied forces and remained a crucial stakeholder in Afghan politics. Taliban regained control after the coalition government collapsed amid U.S withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, leading to peace and security concerns for not only Afghanistan but also the entire region. This paper seeks to address the structural complexities and security challenges involved in the peace process and reconstruction of Afghanistan due to regime change. As per the study, the security challenges require immediate concern as the repercussions may bring large-scale regional collapse. Many efforts were made by the U.S and other regional stakeholders to restore peace in Afghanistan but the internal political dynamics and contrasting interests of stakeholders spoiled the reconciliation process. After the Taliban takeover, the regional stakeholders have been constantly in engagement with the Afghan government for reconciliation in a non-confrontational manner. However, the domestic and external drivers of the conflict have aggravated the dynamics of regional security to prevent peace building in Afghanistan. Thus, an active participation and long term engagement by international and regional community is essential for addressing the security challenges, enduring peace and socio-economic stability.
Sidra Shaukat Aqeel Ahmed Dr. Nosharwan Arbab Abbasi Copyright (c) 2023 al-Īqāẓ (الإيقاظ) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-09-28 2023-09-28 01 17 Practices of Domestic Violence and Abused Women: A Phenomenological Study https://www.aleeqaz.org/index.php/aleeqaz/article/view/183
Domestic violence is a common problem, especially for domestic women. These articles, which focus on women in particular, address health issues and risk factors among female victims in order to provide preventive strategies to eradicate them from societies. Most NGOs are working on victims' women and other related problems, which is the most effective role in the life of victims' women. As part of multi-sector efforts in the early identification and prevention of domestic abuse situations, the majority of commercial and governmental sectors working in the health sector are also crucial. The early detection and intervention of such individuals is a special responsibility of psychiatrists. Domestic violence frequently goes undetected. It can be a waste of time and a result of disobeying doctors' instructions, while women cannot fully say that they face violence. Yes, some women have to endure this cruelty. And some doctors' sympathies are aggressive. At the same time, women need to speak up for their rights and may need advice. We see some women experiencing domestic violence and social ills, including complications such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and pregnancy. None of these are specific to Domestic violence. Be sure to review such recommendations. Many countries on our list appear to be powerless to protect women facing domestic violence. While new laws should be enacted to improve women's care and provide women with full details of their rights, the doctor who completes the process of educating women should fully practice, and there should be a thorough investigation into how domestic violence against women can be prevented and how it can be completely controlled.
There is no doubt that the Prophet’s interpretation is one of the most important sources of interpretation which are referred in understanding the Qur’anic verses. This is because the Prophet (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him), is the most knowledgeable of people about The Book of Allah. It is his job to explain the Holy Qur’an and there has been concensus amongst scholars of Tafseer that if the hadith is proven regarding a particular verse of the Quran then nothing else needs to be referred. Likewise, if the hadith is proven and is in the meaning of one of the interpretaions, then this interpretation is preferred over other contradictory interpretaions. However, in the books of exegeses, we find interpretations that are different from the Prophet’s interpretation, rather you would find many scholars of Tafseer came with interpretations that are different from the prophet’s interpretation. Does this breach the authenticity of the prophet’s interpretation? And would such interpretations be accepted along with the Prophet’s interpretation or these would be rejected? And what are the rules of dealing with interpreations? In answering these questions we attempted for analytical critical study, such that it would clarify that it doesn't seem correct to rush to judgement in rejecting these interpretaions on the excuse that they're different from the Prophet’s interpretaion. Rather, it must be placed under the microscope of criticism and analysis until it is established to which extent it agrees with or contradicts the Prophet’s interpretation.
Dr. Syed Asif Mahmood Muhammad Athar Rafique Copyright (c) 2023 al-Īqāẓ (الإيقاظ) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-09-28 2023-09-28 01 22
